Location

Did you know that thousands of students from all over the world choose Nottingham as their study destination each year? Why? Because the city has a combination of excellent designer and high street shops; a vibrant music scene with live bands and clubs; and a busy cultural hub, with art galleries, theatres, and independent designers in the historic Lace Market and surrounding areas.

Also, there are lots of bars and cafés in the city as well as restaurants with a wide range of international foods to try with your friends. You could even visit ‘Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem’, reported to be England’s oldest inn.

Nottingham is also a great base from which to explore the rest of the UK. It is under 2 hours by train to London and other major cities like Birmingham and Manchester are easy to get to.

When you take a break from your studies, why not take some time to learn about some of Britain’s history and enjoy beautiful scenery in the surrounding countryside. Wollaton Hall, a mansion built in Elizabethan times, is a fantastic place for a picnic and a photo opportunity for movie fans – it featured as Wayne Manor in the recent film ‘Batman, The Dark Knight Rises’. A trip to Sherwood Forest Country Park allows you to enjoy the great British outdoors and see the home of the legend Robin Hood and the world famous Major Oak.

Why not visit the homes of two of the most well-known British writers, Lord Byron and DH Lawrence, or step back into the city’s past at Nottingham Castle and in the historic caves which lie beneath the city?

Whether you love to play sport or want to see sporting stars in action, you will have a great choice in Nottinghamshire. The county is home to two Football League clubs – Nottingham Forest, made famous under the management of Brian Clough in the 1970s and 1980s for back-to-back European Cup wins and Notts County Football Club, the oldest football league club in the world. If you prefer cricket, you can watch international test cricket at the world-famous Trent Bridge, which is also home to Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.

If you like sports that are a little bit different, why not go to the National Ice Centre, which has two Olympic-sized ice-skating rinks? You can try ice-skating yourself or watch the famous Nottingham Panthers team play ice hockey. Or, if you like being outdoors, you can visit the National Watersports Centre and try white water rafting, canoeing, sailing, kayaking or wakeboarding!
