The campus is next to the South Downs National Park, less than ten minutes from the exciting coastal city of Brighton. Sussex is just one hour by train from London and 30 minutes from London Gatwick airport.  

Ranked 1st in the world for Development Studies (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024), Sussex’s research tackles major world issues. From climate change to digital transformations and Artificial Intelligence, academics share their expertise and support students to flourish in their studies and beyond.

Sussex is recognised as Top 20 in the UK for Business and Economics (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025). The Business School is also ranked 1st in the UK for annual research income (Chartered Association of Business Schools 2025). Sussex also has a dedicated AI Centre of Excellence which covers a wide range of topics across AI and data science, with a unique multidisciplinary angle.

Employability is at the heart of a Sussex education, and the University ranks 16th in the UK for Employment Outcomes in the QS World University Rankings 2025. The Careers and Entrepreneurship Team supports students to maximise their employment potential. In 2024, the team won the AGCAS Award for Excellence in Supporting Student Employability for the scale, diversity, inclusiveness and sustainability focus of their work experience offer. They can help students build confidence, find and prepare for placements, polish CVs and network with relevant industries. Sussex also offers various scholarships for students of all backgrounds.

For REF 2021, 89% of the research submitted by the University of Sussex was categorised as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’. In addition, 93% of Sussex’s research impact was assessed as ‘outstanding’ or ‘very considerable’ – up from 80.7% in 2014.

Brighton is on England’s south coast in the county of East Sussex. It’s only an hour from Central London by train and 30 minutes from London Gatwick, one of the UK's major international airports.
